Best Post Operative Treatment

  • Rest and allow your body to recover. Avoid heavy exercise for at least 2-4 days. Do not drive or operate machinery for 24 hours.
  • Keep an ice pack handy for 24 hours. Placing it on and off regularly.
  • Do not rinse out with mouthwashes or salty water to clear the blood taste from your mouth for the first 2 days. You risk washing away the blood clots.
  • Do not smoke for 1 week before or after surgery. Or at least reduce the amount you smoke.
  • Eat properly. You may not feel like eating but your body needs food to help you recover. Avoid hard brittle foods for a couple of days. The sooner you reestablish your normal diet the better you will feel.
  • Avoid alcohol for at least 48 hours.
  • Try to reduce the strength and quantity of the painkillers you take. They do make you nauseous.
  • You may brush your teeth once your numbness has gone but be careful it will hurt if you bump your socket area.
